A Funny, Rambling Kristine Moment

Well, it has happened. I received my first comment from a stranger about the babies. Haha – and I didn’t even know it. Here’s what happened...

Every week I go shopping at a little local market by my house. I always go to the deli counter to buy a pre-cooked chicken breast to shred and use in pitas and wraps for lunch. So this week, as I was ordering my one Teriyaki Almond Chicken Breast from the counter, the lady behind the counter says, “So what are you having?” And I think to myself before responding, well obviously she knows what I am having… chicken. Duh! Well, I proceed to ramble on about how I use the chicken breast to make pitas. I shred the chicken and put it in a pita with cheese and lettuce. And I continue rambling about how “it makes a quick, easy and filling lunch.” After I stop, I notice that she has a funny look on her face, and then BAM – it hits me; she was referring to the pregnany, not what kind of sandwich I make for lunch.
Haha, oops... So I ask her, “What did you ask me?’ She said, “Well, you’re pregnant right?!” Haha – my face must have been bright red and I stutter my answer, “oh, uh, yeah, I am.” And I proceed to tell her that it’s still so new that people are noticing that I am pregnant.

I guess I need to get used to people asking about the babies. After Sunday, I had two more questions about “what are you having” on Monday. I guess there is no more hiding this belly.

Here's a belly shot for you – you can see, it doesn’t hid very well, does it?! (This was taken today at 21 weeks)

20 Week Update

How far along are you? 20 weeks
How big is baby? Both measuring ahead (last week!) - 13 oz and 14 oz (as of last Wednesday)
Maternity clothes? Yes - almost all the time... I sometimes wear my regular jeans, but I usually have to unbutton them!
Weight – Loss or Gain? Gain - as of yesterday, I am up 14lbs.. eh!
Stretch marks? Maybe... but they may be old too.
Sleep: Starting to go downhill. I am up at least 3 times in the night to use the bathroom and I am starting to have more trouble getting comfortable and staying in a comfortable position.
Best moment this week: Hearing that I am doing good with my weight gain!
Any Movement?: I think so! I mostly feel the lower baby (Baby A)... not consistently, but occasionally!
Food Cravings?: None really right now.
Food Aversions?: Nope
Belly Button in or out? In - though getting more shallow.
What do you miss: My family
What are you looking forward to: Our next ultrasound, seeing my family in May.
What was the BEST part of this week? ??
What was the WORST part of this week? Hearing about a slight concern about Baby 'B's heart - causing me stress since the "echogenic intracardiac focus" is a "soft marker" for down syndrome. :-(
Milestones: Hitting 20 weeks - more than half-way there!

Ultrasound Appointment at 19 weeks!

The 'big' ultrasound appointment went well! We stuck to our original plan and did not find out the sexes of the babies. I am a little tiny bit jealous that the ultrasound tech now knows the sexes and no one else knows... but I am still very excited to hear the doctor announce each baby's gender as they are delivered. Jim is looking forward to it too and is excited to be able to share the news with family and friends after delivery.

So where is Baby A?? Baby A is lower, closer to the path out, and will probably be the first born if I have a natural delivery. Jim thinks Baby A is a girl. I think Baby A is a boy. Baby A was calm and relaxed and very cooperative during the ultrasound. The ultrasound tech had no trouble getting any of his/her measurements and different views of the heart, kidneys, diaphragm, legs, arms, etc. He/she even cooperated when the tech was checking to see the sex - the baby was not modest and the tech found the 'goods' quickly! Everything looked excellent on Baby A! According to the measurements, Baby A is measuring around 20 weeks and weighing near 13 ounces. Most of my baby books and Internet searches say that around 19 weeks the baby will weigh 8 ounces... So, I am not sure if the measurements on the baby are off or maybe he/she is growing ahead of schedule right now...

Anyway, introducing our little Baby A:
Upper Left is a foot
Upper Right is a Profile shot
Lower Left is another profile pic
Lower Right is Baby A looking at camera - face and abdomen view.

Can you see it? (PS - if you click the picture, it will zoom for a larger view)

And now introducing our stubborn baby, Baby B. Baby B is located high in my abdomen, above my belly button. Jim thinks, Baby B is a boy, I am thinking girl. So there you have it, right now, both Jim and I are thinking that we are having boy/girl twins. Oh, that reminds me, the tech verified that we are having fraternal twins. That is what we expected since they run in the family, but you never know.

Back to Baby B. Baby B was nestled in the corner of the uterus, making it extremely difficult to get all the necessary views and pictures of his/her heart. After changing positions, laying on my side and jumping up and down outside in the parking lot during a quick break, Baby B still stayed nestled in the corner. We saw him/her moving, but he/she just wouldn't cooperate much to get the pictures needed. So Baby B is our stubborn one. Eventually the tech was able to get the heart measurements and pictures and everything looked perfect on Baby B too! Again, Baby B was not modest and showed the "goods" to the tech, so both of our babies need a lesson in modesty when they come out. :-) Baby B is measuring around 20 weeks too and weighs approximately 14 ounces...

Here is our little Baby B!
Upper left is, uh, not really sure... I think it is a forearm/abdomen.
Upper right is the baby looking at the camera!
Lower left is a profile picture (zoomed in, neck up)
Lower right is a little foot. Awwww!

So there they are, the stars of the show. Aren't they beautiful? The tech said that most likely I will be coming in for growth ultrasounds every 4-6 weeks to keep track of their growth. I haven't confirmed this with my doctor yet, but I would love to have an ultrasound every month or so - another chance to see out babes!

I guess I will have to updated with a belly picture soon too. The belly is definitely popping out and not really able to be hidden much anymore. I guess I kept it hidden pretty well and for a good amount of time. I am just now almost 20 weeks (ok, I am rounding up and I am only 19 weeks, 2 days right now) and have kept the bump hidden really well up until now. Being 6'0" helps I am sure!

That's it for now. The End (LOST style).
